Submissions Guidelines

ARP publishes books on contemporary politics, culture, and social issues. We are especially interested in works that contribute to the debates that are not often covered by mainstream publishers or media.

ARP publishes between four and six books per year. With the high volume of submissions we receive, you greatly increase your odds if you follow our guidelines strictly. While you can submit on paper or by email, paper submissions are preferred.

Our focus is on Canadian-authored books. Foreign titles are considered, but we are limited by funding to the number we can publish. We publish few literary titles, but will consider works of fiction and poetry that fall within our mandate. Note that we are not currently seeking works of speculative fiction.

To determine if your work fits with our mandate, we encourage you to review the titles in our catalogue.

Our review process can take several months to a year or longer, depending on the number of submissions we receive. Therefore, we ask that you do not send follow-up queries until six months after your original submission.

Please include both your postal address and an email address. Responses will be sent by email. We do not return submissions unless you include an SASE and state in your cover letter that you wish to have the manuscript returned.

If you are interested in publishing with us, please send us the following:

  1. A cover letter explaining the primary objective of your manuscript. This letter should include the work’s title, its unique attributes, and why you think ARP would be a suitable publisher. Please note the current state of the manuscript, when you expect it to be completed, and its approximate length. This letter should also tell us if you have any special requirements such as illustrations or photographs.
  2. A one-page synopsis of the work and an outline of the work (or the Table of Contents).
  3. A statement about where your work fits into its field (about one page). Please tell us who your intended audience is, what works it competes with and how it is distinct from these competitors.
  4. A sample chapter or portion of the work.
  5. Your curriculum vitae or resume.
